Kurva

Reial Companyia de Teatre de Catalunya

Kurva

UK Premiere and Brighton Festival Exclusive

Roadside prostitution is a common sight across mainland Europe. On the outskirts of towns and cities, on dusty rural byways, women ply their lonely and often perilous trade...

But what are their daily lives really like? The hardship? The tedium? The friendships? The rivalries? Kurva - the latest production from this Catalunyan outdoor theatre company - cuts through the clichés and gets to the human heart of the matter.

You meet. A bus takes you beyond the city limits to an undisclosed location. A field. A random spot on the road. The prostitutes' place of work. Part witness, part voyeur, you experience the everyday reality of life 'on the road' - as it unfolds. Cars pass. Clients stop. Lovers drop by. Time passes. The girls work, play, fight, talk. Another day goes by...

Committed to creating a 'theatre of experience', the company's aesthetic and thematic vision owes an acknowledged debt to the likes of Compagnie Dakar, Laika, DV8 and the Shunt Collective. Marking their first visit outside mainland Europe, this UK premiere
lends a rare humanity to a provocative and divisive subject.
